DOMINIKA PREKSTOVA - Nutritional Therapist, Personal Trainer
I first started to experience significant health challenges in my early 20’s, which
presented itself in the form of acne, gut issues and severe anxiety and panic attacks
resulting in periods of depression. At that time, I never connected my symptoms with
the way I was living, nor the way I was nourishing my body. I did not understand how
food could significantly impact both my physical and mental well-being and how all my
issues were just my body’s way of showing me that something not agreeing on the
inside. This is where it all begun...
I started reading and researching food, nutrition and physical activity and how it affects us, what are the links between certain diseases, our diet and our lifestyles. I kept finding more and more answers as well as discovering a new passion for fitness and nutrition.
I first started by tidying up my diet and trying to solve my acne, then I added in some more tools to combat my anxiety and panic attacks and slowly, I ended up working on my gut health, which felt like the most important thing.
Firstly, I qualified as a personal trainer back in 2014 after realising how important
exercise is for our health and the impact it can have on our mental well-being. The
biggest change in my approach began when I decided to enrol on a 3-year diploma
course to become a nutritional therapist at College of Naturopathic Medicine in London.
I started to understand health from a completely different perspective, this is a holistic
point of view. I no longer believed that I could achieve a wholesome lifestyle purely just
by eating healthy food or just by exercising alone. I realised that a wholesome lifestyle
covers more than just nutrition and exercise, it is a combination of an adequate amount
of good quality sleep, relaxation, reduction in stress levels, mindset and attitude
towards life, not to forget the importance of relationships and networks for one’s
wellbeing. I love seeing people succeed, improving their physical and mental wellbeing
and achieving all their goals they have set themselves. I work with my clients closely to
understand their needs and I tailor all my advice and guidance in order to best suit them,
so that they can easily apply the principles and fit them into their daily routine without sacrificing everything they love.
